Hill and Stewart

Need

Hill and Stewart ran a chain of 13 electrical goods and whiteware stores in Auckland, New Zealand. Competing with the likes of Noel Leeming and Harvey Norman.

The requirements for an online store were:

  • Product search and presentation
  • Present company information, store locations, contacts and opening times
  • News, events and frequently asked questions
  • Up-sell and cross-sell of products based on customer choices
  • Online sale process
  • Integration to a legacy system containing product information

Solution

The development for Hill and Stewart consisted if the following deliverables:

  • Online storefront providing browse and text search functionality for products
  • News and events pages
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Store and contact information
  • Special pricing and bundled product discounts
  • Shopping basket and online sales process
  • PC based content management tool:
    • Extracting data from exiting legacy system
    • Management of additional data and images
    • Updates to staging version of the website
  • Scheduled data synchronisation to live website

Outcome

Completed within the desired timeline and agreed budget, this project was highly successful in meeting the needs of Hill & Stewart.

Implementation was completed in 2 phases, being the main website, store and product information, followed by the online sales process.

Subsequent modifications and additional functionality were added over the lifetime of the website, which ran from July 2004 to December 2007, when the site was decommissioned due to Hill and Stewart being purchased by JB Hi-Fi.
